Starting February with colour is Gerry Hall's Mazda Euons. In Gerry's own words "The Eunos was only made for the Japanese market, when these cars were sold in the UK they were known as the Mazda MX5. This one here shown here is a special edition, a ‘Eunos Roadster J-2 Limited’ of which only 800 were made, there are a lot less on the road now. My car was first registered in 1993 and imported to the UK in 2003. This car is finished in Sunburst Yellow and has a very distinctive black surround to the windscreen that was only seen on the J2 Limited.
It has an 1800cc engine connected to a 5 speed manual gearbox, final drive is through a 4.1 ratio Zexei Torsion differential. The interior was originally fitted with cloth seats, these have been exchanged for leather seats with radio speakers fitted in the headrest, all instrument gauges have yellow dials. There is a black soft top and a black hardtop can be fitted for the winter months. I have upgraded the centre panel to take a modern touch screen, incorporating a radio, phone connection, waze sat-nav maps and a rear-view camera.
The 1800cc engine producing130PS giving a good turn of speed for a car of this era, with a top speed of 126mph and a 0 to 60 time of 6 seconds. The roadholding on these small Japanese sports cars is second to none, it is an extremely well balanced and predictable car.
I have owned many MX5s in the past but this car such a joy to own and drive."
