This Mercedes Benz 190B Petrol is a good runner with a full service history. A fully imported original right hand driver version from South Africa. This car has been extensively restored with sheet metal work on all doors and floorplan, it has a generator to alternator conversion and unleaded fuel use modifications. The carburettor was serviced and rebuilt in 2021 here in the UK to concourse standards and the car extensively checked, repaired, and serviced by an East Sussex based specialist Jentree. The rear light cluster now has LED bulbs for better visibility and safety and the headlights recently replaced with cats eyes LED units for night time driving (the originals were dimmer than candles - could also be my eyes). The manually operated foot pump for the washer fluid was replaced with an electric pump for safety and reliability. The radiator has been refurbished in Manchester.
A wonderful example of the 190 series the 1900cc 4-cylinder petrol engine has matching numbers to the chassis and this car boasts bench seats, new carpets throughout, as well as uncracked glass work all round. There is a functional spare wheel and the wheel jack and spanner are original. The domed roof and generous proportions make for a spacious interior that makes long journeys a pleasure.
After having only 2 owners since new it is time for a new home; either as a driving piece of automotive history or as an excellent project car base. Extensive provenance accompanies the car with original service book, owner’s manual, service station listing, as well as the original certificates of congratulations on the 100000km achievement (issued in 1968). This includes the complimentary tie pin issued at the time still in its original case. The car has been regularly driven and enjoyed. Currently this splendid Mercedes Benz has 167000 miles on the odometer and many more still planned.
The interior seats have worn with the vinyl requiring repairs in places. The paintwork has blemishes and there are initial signs of rust on some of the chrome parts. The fuel gauge does not work (a new sender unit has been installed in the tank and it may be a question of calibration) and the built-in dashboard clock does not work. All other gauges are functional. Spare parts are easily available with most still available new/old from various EU based suppliers.
