SADCASE members have usually added to the numbers meeting at the Selsey car park in February. This year however matters are different. We cannot meet as a car club although there may be a number of SADCASE members that may wish to meet as individuals. What better than a bracing day at the Seaside? Maybe we can assemble in the Storrington car park at 9.00am before deciding where to drive to? Thank God our car park is owned by Horsham District Council and not Chichester District Council who own the East Beach car park. More news soon. We have emailed the Manhood Car Club and await their response.
For 13 years, Manhood Classics have been meeting one Sunday per month at the East Beach car park, in Selsey, where members socialise and admire each other’s vehicles.
But the district council has issued a formal notice telling them to stop.
Club chairman Les Payne said: “Manhood Classic Car Club was formed by a couple of local chaps in Selsey in October 2010 as a way to get together, share their interest, and enjoy a breakfast or just a coffee at the beach-front kiosk.
“As the meet was held in a public car park where anyone can park, paying the parking fees in the summer months, the club did not realise that any permission was needed.
“Surely a public car park is just that – a place to park your car.”
SADCASE would like to offer our full support to Manhood and hope the local District Council reconsider their position swiftly.
