Andy Ashton, from Middleton on Sea has provided this beautiful Ford Escort RS Turbo as July's Car of the Month. In Andy's own words- "The Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 1 Custom 1985, 1600cc. I have owned this car for approximately a year, I bought it from a chap in Scotland, the 3rd one I looked at as these cars can have serious rust issues. Approximately 8000 produced and successful in rallying, sold only in Diamond White. A large history file, showing all owners since 1985, how long the owned the car and what work they carried out. This has 91,000 miles on the clock and has had a recent gearbox rebuild. I have great pleasure driving this car, the engine is smooth, being a turbo engine you get a nice whistle sound when I put the accelerator down. There’s no power steering but it is still light and responsive. RS Ricardo seats hold me firmly in place when cornering. Whilst driving I get a lot of interest in the form of flashing lights and thumbs up ! which is nice, not so nice when you don’t like attention. My future plans are to keep it for a while, do any work required to keep the body work to a rust free standard and engine maintenance. This modern classic is easy to drive and keeps up with cars of today. I have kicked off the year with my first car show at Amberley with SADCASE who seem like a nice bunch with some smashing cars."
