Happy 2024 everyone and for our first car of the year we have Sean Barriskill's 2004 VW Golf V6 4 Motion...In Sean's own words:
"A bit about myself. I live in Plaistow, West Sussex. For the last eight and a half years I've worked for a company called UK Lanyard Makers, making (the clue is in the name) lanyards and wristbands for corporate and events etc. In my spare time you'll find me as the Competition Secretary for the Bognor Regis Motor Club. I organise and compete in our Autotests, you'll also find me running the paddock and stewarding at our Sprint at Goodwood, which is usually held in April.
LR04 PWV is the second Volkswagen MK4 Golf V6 4Motion that I've owned, I got into Golfs after having a Big Bumper MK2 GTI for many years, I put a lot of time and money into that car and would have loved to have kept it as a second vehicle, unfortunately my wallet said different!
LR04 is a MK4 Golf V6 4Motion Highline Edition. The Highline has Recaro seats and slightly more power than the stock model.
The car is 4WD with the Swiss designed Haldex System, which sits in the rear axle. Power wise the car should have 215BHP with 0-60 in just under 7 seconds. I managed to get my previous 4Motion was 205BHP to 153MPH (somewhere where it was legal to do it!), so they certainly have good performance delivered by a 2.8L naturally aspirated V6. The chassis are shared by the VW MK4 R32, Audi S3 and TT, some of these cars also had the V6 as well. The R32 and V6 TT were bored out to 3.2L. They all share the Haldex System as well.
I use the car as my everyday drive, though I might have to rethink that in future as the car will be twenty years old in 2024. I've owned the car since about 2011. I also show the car and compete in various Grass Roots Motorsport, usually with the Bognor Regis Motor Club.
I really enjoy being a SADCASE Member as it a very friendly Club with no snobbery or elitism, and the events are great. You would have seen my car and myself marshalling at the Summer Show in the past.
